I’ve always been big on promoting sustainability. It’s not so much as a goal as a way of life for me, possibly because of where I live. As much as I like knowing that what I’m doing is making a difference, I also want to highlight those around me who are doing their part.
Nevada City is a mecca for those who believe in sustainable living, giving back, and community. The locally owned businesses that line Broad Street and the other downtown areas are more like family than competitors; everyone works together to create an ambiance of friendship and support. THIS is what I love about life in my small town.
Don’t wait for a local event to visit. Nevada City shines at all times because of the people who live and work here. If you’re visiting, do me a favor and support those who are the real reason Nevada City is one of America’s most celebrated small towns.
HAALo
The epitome of what Nevada City is all about can be found within HAALo, a local resource for alternative healing. Pulled directly from their website, they’ve created a “support network for practitioners, farmers who grow our medicine, and for those in the community who need healing.” Visit HAALo’s website to check out their informative blog and the upcoming classes they offer.
KitKitDizzi
A shop of a million treasures, KitKitDizzi offers a place for local crafters and artists to display and sell their products. I myself have discovered beautiful local artwork, like photos and maps of the Yuba River and paintings of the gorgeous Sierra Foothills. Check out their special “Locals” webpage or just wander into the store when you’re down on Broad Street here in Nevada City.
Outside Inn
If you’re looking for somewhere to stay while you’re in town, consider the Outside Inn here in Nevada City. The owner, Erin Thiem, is seriously passionate Nevada County and especially Nevada City.
